EET Carryover Ideas!!

Have you joined in the EET party?!  No...it is not a real party!  But it is just that much fun to use in speech therapy!  CLICK HERE to learn more about the Expanding Expression Tool!  I have been working hard all year with my students to expand their abilities to describe common objects, compare/contrast, and even describe/compare using non-fiction texts.  Now, it is time to come up with ways for them to carryover the skill into the classroom!

I created these fun EET rings with my students.  I cut index cards in half, put each EET bead on a card, hole punched, and put them on binder rings.  Now my students can easily bring these with them back to the classroom (since I do not have enough student EET strands!  I only purchased 5 for the max amount of students I would have in my therapy room).  

Before I allowed my students to bring them to their classrooms, we practiced using them in academic tasks!  

• Academic vocabulary:  I pulled vocabulary words from their science and social studies curriculum.  I also pulled words from novels they are reading in their ELA classes.  We practiced defining these words and concepts using the EET rings!  Vocabulary examples:  biomes, solar system, government, and Greek mythology.  I showed them how they can use the EET to study, complete study guides/worksheets that require expanded written responses, and identify which words are being described to select the answers!
• Listening/reading for keywords:  We practiced reading/listening to texts and listening for the EET concepts.  I gave the students a graphic organizer to complete but they had to flip to the EET "bead" on their rings when we got to a concept in the text that would answer that "question."  This helped them focus their listening/reading to the important facts!  We then practiced retelling the texts using the EET rings to make sure they expressed each important fact!

My students loved creating these rings and practicing them.  A few of them have already told me that they are using them in the classroom or with homework!  I have also held workshops in my school to educate the teachers on what these rings are and how they can help their students.  This way no teachers are confused and try to take them away thinking the students are being distracted!

Summer Expanding Vocabulary Fun! (EET Companion)

Were you hoping I would create a summer EET companion pack?!  I did!!  It is available and ready for you to grab and use in your therapy rooms over the summer or the last few weeks of school!

What can you find in this summer EET companion pack?!

Expanding Vocabulary Beach Game:
-Print and laminate a sandcastle for each student.
-Print and laminate the beach items and place them in the middle.

-Print and laminate the visual/directions and display them for your students.  If you have a Smart Board you can display this page on it for your students to see while playing.  This will help them understand what they need in order to win!

-Place the object pile in the middle.  Students will take turns picking an object.  On each object card is an EET “bead”.  They must express the describing concept requested (EET bead).  Once they express that description, they can locate the  beach item that has that EET bead on it. Students will take turns picking an object and describing it while adding the items to their sandcastle until all of the cards run out.  The first student to fill their sandcastle with all 7 types of  beach items/EET beads is the winner!  (**48 object cards included!**)

-Review worksheets are included!!

-A generic board game is included that can be used with any targets.  Students must roll a dice to move along the game board.  They must express the description based on the space they land on.  All spaces have correlating EET “beads.”

Patriotic Describing Board Games (EET Compaion Pack!)

What is in this pack?!!
-Go For The Flag: Print and laminate the game board.  Print and laminate all of the cards.  Students should pick a card and read all of the descriptions for the bolded/underlined word provided.  They must determine which description does not belong!  All descriptions will reflect the EET “beads.”  Once they respond correctly, they can take a turn in the board game.  Can they identify which “bead” each description represents?  You can also keep a score and students can earn points for guessing!

-Patriotic EET Board Game Fun:  Print and laminate the game board.  Print and laminate the cards.  Students must roll a dice and move their space along the game board.  Each board space will have an EET “bead” symbol.  Students must pick a card and describe it based on the “bead” symbol they landed on.  They must describe it correctly in order to stay on that space!

-Review worksheets

Easter EET Fun! (fun ways to incorporate the EET during Easter time!)

Are you looking for more ways to incorporate the EET into your therapy rooms during Easter time?!  I have some activities that I have been doing to help you out!!  Don't have an EET kit?!  Learn more about it by clicking HERE!

What did I use?!

• The EET strand
• Object cards from the EET kit
• EET dice from the EET kit
• EET stickers from the EET kit
• A fun, spring basket/bin that I got from the Target dollar spot
• Graphic organizer from my activity pack found HERE!
• Index cards or small pieces of paper
• Easter eggs that I got from a dollar store

Pick an EET Egg:

• I put an EET sticker on small pieces of paper and placed them in the Easter Eggs.  I put the eggs in the buckets and gave one to each student.  Only one basket?  You can place them all in a basket and pass the basket around.  (my students have a tendency to "cheat" so I presort to avoid it!)
• Students picked a card from the object card and an Easter egg.  They had to open the egg to find out how they had to describe the object on the card!!

EET Dice Fun:

• Students can pick an object card and roll the dice to find out how they need to describe it.
• Once they respond accurately, they can hunt for an Easter egg around the therapy room!  
• Some groups I put in little prizes such as erasers in the eggs.  Other groups, I put in pieces of paper with multi-step directions to follow (to work on other skills for groups with multiple goals).
• This was so much fun and students loved moving around the room!

Graphic Organizer Fun:

• We used these graphic organizers as a review
• Students got to pick a card from the object cards pile
• They had to independently use the EET to describe it
• It was a great way to collect data!

St. Patrick's Day Describing Board Games (EET COMPANION PACK!)

For St. Patrick's Day, I decided to bring back an EET companion pack format that I used in a previous pack that you seemed to like!  Change it up a bit!  This format is easier prep work (I think so at least) which is nice for a quick holiday that surprises us in March!

Valentine's Day Expanding Vocabulary Fun (EET Companion)!

Category Sorting for Older Students!

Are you loving my packs for older students?  Well...I have created one more!! I have tons of students that are struggling to make connections with vocabulary words.  This impacts their ability to study for classroom tests (what vocabulary words go with that topic) and to make educated guesses on word meaning just by knowing what group it belongs into.  I created a quick sorting activity that incorporates age appropriate and academic vocabulary!

 How to use this activity/my suggestions?!

-Various sorting activities to build vocabulary for older students.

-Categories and words include: pop culture, academic vocabulary, and words to tap into background knowledge.

-Recommend having a computer with internet nearby!  If a student is unaware of a word or category, let them look it up on the internet to learn how to find it for themselves.  A reference page is provided with great websites for you to grab information for concepts your students struggle with or to direct them to find the answers!

-The various category mats and their cards are the same color borders to help easily grab and use.

-You can use this activity to help teach the “green group” bead for the Expanding Expression Tool (EET).


-Review worksheets are provided for extra practice, data collection, homework, and/or carryover.

Christmas Expanding Vocabulary & Imagination Fun!!
