Synonyms & Antonyms for Older Students!

Practice identifying and expressing synonyms and antonyms with vocabulary appropriate for older students.  Sentences used are also motivating for this age group.

In this file:
-Introduction & matching cards:  Available for both synonym pairs (blue) and antonyms (yellow).  Use to teach new and difficult age-appropriate vocabulary terms.  Help them comprehend by teaching them the synonyms and antonyms.

-Card game to practice expressing synonyms (green).  Students will be provided a sentence with a word underlined and bolded.  Students must express a synonym of the word.  You can show them choices from the “introduction cards” if necessary.  The words used in this activity are the same from the introduction cards.  You can use these cards with any motivating game or activity!

-Card game to practice expressing antonyms (red).  Students will be provided a sentence with a word underlined and bolded.  Students must express an antonym of the word.  You can show them choices from the “introduction cards” if necessary.  The words used in this activity are the same from the introduction cards.  You can use these cards with any motivating game or activity!

-Frayer Card:  Use this graphic organizer to help practice understanding new vocabulary words.  Student must complete each section based on the word provided in the center.  I provided some with words already provided and one blank for you to use with any new vocabulary word.  This is a great way to teach and practice curriculum and age-appropriate vocabulary with speech and language strategies incorporated.
