Wild Word Fun: Prefixes!

I don't know about you but I am always looking for better/easier ways to teach and practice understanding prefixes.  I am constantly trying to teach my older students to recognize when they spot prefixes in reading comprehension tasks and other reading/listening activities.  I took some strategies and activities that have worked for me in the past to create my newest download.

In this file:

-Sorting Cards: Sort the root words to the prefix it can go with to make a word.  Use the definition of the prefix to create a new meaning of the words.

-Worksheet:  Use the worksheet to document the new words created from the sorting activity.

-Card Game:  Students must select the word from the choice to best answer the question provided.  The question will require knowledge of the prefixes and which root words go with them best.  Each card has a point value (1-5).  Students can hold onto their cards once they respond accurately.  Students can add up their points at the end of the game to determine a winner.

You can access this activity in my TpT store!
