Build language and social skills with a library theme!! This activity follows my restaurant, grocery store, and post office activities currently in my TpT store. Like those?! You will like this one too! This is a great packet if you like to do life skill themes!
In this packet:
-Sorting Items: Students can sort the pictures by whether or not they will find them in a library.
-Compare/Contrast: Students will complete the Venn Diagram to compare/contrast school library vs. public library. Students will also complete a Venn Diagram to compare/contrast the internet vs. library.
-Library Vocabulary Matching: Cards contain a vocabulary word with its definition. You can use these to teach vocabulary and for memory matching games to practice. A worksheet is provided to review.
-Following Directions: Print and laminate the bookshelf and place it in the center. Print and laminate the library items and place them next to or around the bookshelf mat. Read the direction cards to your students and let them use the mat and items to complete them.
-Scenario Cards: Students can practice expressing what they would do if they are in the situations provided. A board game is provided to use as a reinforcer/motivator.
-Create Your Own Library Card: Students will get to use their creativity and design their own library cards! Students can share their work to promote language and conversation.
-The Librarian Has: This activity can be used as a file folder activity. Print and glue onto a file folder the male and female librarians. For each item card, students can use the sentence strips provided to express which one has the item. This activity can also be used to work on “who” questions, pronouns, and possessives.
-Library Scavenger Hunt: If you are fortunate enough to go on a field trip to a library, use this worksheet to have students know what to look for. They can check off all the different items they locate! Who can locate more??
-Parent letter: Feel free to send this letter home to let parents know about your library theme. This will help with carryover of skills.
You can access this activity in my TpT store by clicking HERE!!
Reading comprehension involves a number of critical thinking skills that are used alone, in combinations or simultaneously. The best way to practice and apply these skills is through real reading situations where students can discuss and share their thoughts and opinions as well as predict, infer, question, summarize and evaluate what they have...

Crayon Attributes Sorting Fun!
I don't know about you, but I love sorting activities to teach concepts. I love to use sentence strips to encourage expanded utterances as they sort. This way, it targets more than one goal at a time! For back to school season, I created a fun crayon sorting activity (but can be used any time of the year!) I chose to target attributes based on the needs of my students!
Using this activity:
-Print and laminate the crayon boxes.
-Print and laminate the crayons.
-Each box has a sentence strip to use while the students sort the crayons into the correct box.
-Students will sort crayons based on attributes!
***LIKE THIS ACTIVITY?! LEAVE COMMENTS OR FEEDBACK ON TPT AND I WILL CREATE MORE IN THE FUTURE USING TARGETS YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!!**

Factory of Categories (app review! & info on their giveaway!)
Looking for new ways to work on categories?!! Virtual Speech Center has a way! They created a brand new app called Factory of Categories and was generous to provide me with a copy to try out and share with you! Remember, the thoughts and opinions are all mine!
Like their other apps, you can alter the settings to meet your needs. You can access this feature on the main screen or during the activity. Here you can enable score sounds, decide the amount of correct or incorrect sounds, random paging, and whether or not to show the score (some students benefit from this feature and others focus too much on it and can take away from their work). You can also back up and restore data (highly recommend you back up regularly for any app that allows you to store data! You will cry if you lose any data!).
You can add students to this app (yes, multiplayer/students feature! Great for school SLPs working with groups!). It is so easy to add students! Just hit "add student"!
Once you add the students, select the ones you want for that session, then touch "next" to begin!
Next, you can select the activities for each student. You can have all students working on the same activity or different. This is great for differentiation. I know from my experience, my students never notice when they are doing different activities!! Most of the time, they can benefit from observing their peers working on their tasks! Ok...what activities are included?!

Ok...what activities are included?!
- Where does it belong?
- Name this category?
- Which does not belong?
- Add one more that goes with the rest
For each activity, you can select level 1, 2, or 3. For each activity, you can select "edit" to view the list of categories. You can eliminate a few or hand select the specific few you want to use. This is great if you want to match a theme working on in a classroom or vocabulary concepts working on in previous speech sessions. What are some categories you may find?
- Jewelry
- Holidays
- Musical Instruments
- Boys' Names
- Snacks
- Food
- and so much more!
Time to check out some of the activities!
Where does it belong?
For this activity, students must drag the pictures into the correct box labeled by categories. There are four categories provided. Hit "next" once students have completed this task to get more pictures and more boxes. I recommend sticking to 4 categories for the entire task. Do this by using that "edit" button. Why do this? This way it isn't too overwhelming for those first starting to work on categories. Another option, use this to get a baseline. See which categories they struggle with and then create and provide extra practice with those categories. Then use the app to review/collect data and to monitor progress afterwards. At any point, you can click "finish" if you want to end early. You can also just wait for the activity to be over!
Name this category
For this activity, students are provided with four pictures with text labels. Students must express to you the label that can be used for these items. There is a "check" and "x" button on the top for you to score them based on their responses. You can also have them rate themselves or their peers! Use those buttons to collect data.
Which does not belong?
For this activity, students are presented with four pictures on top and a bin on the bottom. They must move the item that does not belong in that category into the bin to get credit. I love that students are able to correct their incorrect answers in this task. You can add a bonus activity and have them express the reasons verbally. There is no way to score this through the app but it is great practice to get verbal responses! Do they understand why one answer is correct?!
Add one more that goes with the rest
Students are given four pictures/text on the top and three pictures on a train on the bottom. They must move on of the images on the top that can be added to the train. Again, as a bonus, students can express to you their reasons. Do they know the category of the train?! Can they express the categories of the other images left behind?!
Whenever you click "finish" or complete an activity, you are given a session report. Here you can directly email the report.
You can also access the score reports from the main page. Here you can access reports by student. For each student you can access by goal or by date. I love this feature because sometimes I remember the goal I worked on but other times I know I did it at a certain point in time. Click what you want to view, and you can see a nice chart. Here you can also email from this page as well.
Things I like about this app:
- Easy to use and navigate
- Multi-user and can differentiate without students noticing
- You can select the pace! You click "next" when ready! Want to discuss incorrect responses or challenge students when they are correct, you can!
- Score reports and progress monitoring
- Provides images with text. Great for poor readers!
- Ability to edit and design the lesson appropriate for your students.
- Many activities in one app! Receptive and expressive tasks!

Shades of Meaning Puzzles!
Are you looking for more activities to build vocabulary and word knowledge??! Do you have students working on synonyms but looking for a unique way to address this goal?! This activity is for you!! Build vocabulary and word knowledge with these fun puzzles!!
What is shades of meaning? Some words can be similar in meaning like synonyms but these words have subtle changes in meaning. They are closely related.
Using this activity:
-Students must locate the different puzzle pieces that contain words with the same shades of meaning to put the 4-piece puzzles together.
-One puzzle piece will be “easy” with the word and an image. The other 3 pieces will be “harder” words in sentences. Students must use their context clues knowledge in order to determine which puzzles go together.
-To assemble: Print all puzzles and cut them apart. Laminate them. Place all puzzle pieces in the middle of a pile/table. Students can locate all of the puzzle pieces with images to start. Then they can take turns picking puzzle pieces, reading the sentences, and using their context clues to determine which puzzle it belongs to. Last, they can put the 4-piece puzzles together.
8 verbs and 8 adjectives are included! The verbs have red stars and the adjectives have blue stars. This way if you want to separate them and use one part of speech per session/lesson you can. Can your students recognize that all of the words go together in the part of speech category?
-Verb & adjective visuals are provided.
-Review worksheets.
-Graphic organizer to document new vocabulary down.

Comparing & Contrasting SpeechPad (PLUS GIVEAWAY!!)
I am always looking to find new ways to work on tricky concepts. When it comes to comparing and contrasting, I find my students can identify which items go together and those that do not. However, they struggle with expressing HOW and WHY! I've used EET, visuals, models, and more...I still have several students that struggle to see the connections on their own. How many prompts can you give before you say FORGET IT! I created a new activity using a new method of teaching this concept!!
What is this new method I speak about?! Well....I took the most common 4 ways items can be the same (or different for that matter) and broke them up. I made visuals for each of them and 24 practice drill cards. I teach each one separately to ensure that students completely recognize and understand the connection and how items can go together in that way. Once each of the four are mastered, it is not time to mix them together and see if students can identify which one is being compared with each pair of objects presented. The same visuals used in the individual visual is used in the combined visual. Keep reading to see what I mean!!
In this activity pack:
-Four common ways to compare are introduced. Students will be provided with a visual on how to express each comparing type (function, looks, location, & category). 24 stimulus cards are provided to practice. Each comparing type uses a different “iPad” color to help with storage and make it easy to sort and use.
-Compare/Contrast visual is provided and an opportunity to use all 4 ways to compare and contrast are provided. Can your students identify which way makes them the same? Which way makes them different? Use the sentence strip on the visual to encourage complete sentences!!
-Review worksheets are provided!
I am so excited about this new activity!! You can access this activity in my TpT store by clicking HERE!!
