Speech FlipBook (App Review)

I was recently contacted by the developers, Tactus Therapy Solutions, to try out their new app, Speech FlipBook!

This app is great for students learning to read basic CVC words and produce them as well!  Have you seen flipbooks as a commercial product or DIY?!  This app takes this concept and brings it to an iPad!

The app was easy to figure out and use.  I recommend this one for those new to the app world and isn't too tech-savvy.

Take a look at the settings you can alter for your/students needs:

You can also edit the word list provided.  This is great for when students have mastered a word/sound, you can take it off the list.

If you click the tabs on the bottom of the book, you can view and select the different sounds based on categories:

Now time to play/work!  You can work on the "sounds" or "words" mode.

For the "sounds" mode, students are presented with a CVC word.  Each sound is color-coded. There are no images, so students must be able to read or you can touch each sound to hear the model.  Based on which sound/position you are working on, you can flip another sound to get another combination.  You can flip all three tabs.  All you have to do is swipe the page!

For the "words" mode, students are presented with a vowel(s) in the medial position and they must produce a word using that combination.  This is great for phonological awareness students learning about vowel combinations!

Things I like about this app:
  • Color coded sounds, great for teaching position
  • Easy to use
  • Ability to record and play back productions
  • Setting options to alter word lists

Things I would like to see in future updates:
  • Data collection possibilities
  • Ability to add your own words
  • Printable worksheets that go with the different CVC combinations for carryover
